Wednesday

storm

My room is dark
Save two flickering candles
To show the way

I sit outside my door
In the oppressive heat
of a mid summers night.
All around pitch black
Not a light to be seen

Then a blinding dazzling shard of silver
Assaults my eyes
And a thunderous crash
Shakes me to my very soul.

I look toward the ocean
Nothing I see until once again
the heavens illuminate the scene.

The sea millpond calm
Glistens for a second
Then once again is gone

Without warning
A torrent of rain
Comes crashing from the sky
Roaring , hissing, bouncing high
Like so many bejewelled coronets
In the lightning’s glare

The smell, that sound
The power, that majesty
Lasts but for a short while

Then is gone

Monday

birth

His birth was long
his life but a brief moment in time
The act of a cruel God
or was it meant to be?

Her tears of pain
became tears of utter despair
Did her God forsake her
or was it meant to be?

Wednesday

because

She was staring into space
focusing on nothing at all

I asked her why
She said because

Her eyes were filled with tears
Which trickled down her cheeks

I asked her why
She said because

Her brow was heavy with sadness
Her face etched with sorrow

I asked her why
She said because

She knew that I was leaving
She knew it broke my heart

She asked me why
I said because

Monday

Give me time to think

Don’t rush me I’m not ready
The answer's hard to find
Don’t crowd me, you must understand
I can’t make up my mind

I need some time to work it out
I need more time to think
I need to spend some time alone
I’m teetering on the brink

But now the time has come to chose
A choice I have to make
My mind’s made up, no going back
I think I’ll have a steak

Sunday

follow me

I heard a voice, a soft voice
Follow me it said
Suddenly from the gloom
A girl appeared
What do you want? I said
Follow and you will see she said
I said I don’t want to
She said You must

She ran down a dark street
Occasional streaks of light
Revealed her tear stained face
Hurry, please, she said
Faster and faster she went

I can’t keep up I said
Hurry she said
I’m losing you I said
Then she disappeared

Where are you? I called
It’s too late she cried
What did you want? I asked
It’s too late she sobbed

I guess I’ll never know

let me read it to you

Monday

the pavilion

.

A hall a marble floor
A flash of mirror steel
twisting skyward
Glass, seductive curves
Signs black on white
Stark.

Strings and wind
Discordant tuning
The maestro taps his baton
then a quilt of harmony
cossets the hushed crowd
Unheard outside

Figures creep silently
twixt sculptures, images
Standing back
Contorting bodies
finding the best angle
to view

A table in a hall
littered with spent paint and crayons
Surrounded by tiny stools
where children just sat
Art pegged to a string
on the wall

The ding of a till
Books chosen then wrapped
Painting bought
Small works of art
taken home
Souvenirs

Above, a clatter of cups
and glasses
Excited chatter
The air filled with the smell
of food and
and wine

Out on the roof
couples cuddle in the breeze
Stare out to sea
like actors on the set
of Titanic

Sun sets at the end of the day
White concrete glows pink
in the setting sun
Glass reflects
the dying rays
It sleeps
'

Saturday

lost then found

Left, abandoned
Sad beginning
Lost, discarded
All alone

Found and rescued
Happy ending
Held, embraced
and welcomed home.
